Mama's Gun '25 The Return of Automatic Slim Tour

Erykah Badu just announced a massive tour celebrating the 25 anniversary of her beloved album "Mama's Gun". A shining gem from year 2000, the record became a hallmark of neo soul, packing her big hits "Cleva", "Bag Lady", and "Didn't Cha Know?". Having sold over 1.4 million copies and being certified Platinum by the RIAA, it sure is one of the best albums of the time. On stage, she'll be performing her best hits and fan favorites from the record, and of course you'lll get to hear deep cuts that she's never taken to the live stage.

About Mama's Gun

Released back in November 2000, "Mama's Gun" was the second studio record of Erykah Badu, a rising neo soul artist at the time, It followed her critically-acclaimed debut LP "Baduizm", and further solidified her reputation as a "Queen of Neo Soul" by music critics. The record in particular served "Bag Lady", which earned Badu a nomination for Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 2001 Grammys. At the time, she quickly became a global sensation, and the record continues to touch the hearts of R&B and neo soul listeners today.

The record received generally positive reviews among critics, and Rolling Stone listed it as one of the Top 10 Albums of 2000. Wayne Franklin of PopMatters described Mama's Gun as "a definite work of art, destined to remain in heavy rotation for some time to come," finding the album a compelling representation of Badu's artistry.

Though the record didn't sell quite as well as her debut Baduizm, the singer found that sales doesn't equate to the quality of her work. Initially feeling disappointed as she felt that Mama's Gun was a better album overall, she became encouraged as she went on stage, "When I started to tour again and saw all the people show up who knew the words, it was confirmation that the work is not always for commercial success. It's also for spiritual upliftment," as cited from "Erykah Badu: The First Lady Of Neo-Soul" by Joel McIver.

Voted as the 15th best album of the year 2000 in the Pazz & Jop (a poll by American critics by The Village Voice), Mama's Gun also received sevral other top listings, at #5 in Jon Pareles' list for The New York Times, as well as making it to the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die book. In 2020, Rolling Stone placed the record at #158 in their list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".
