The one and only Erykah Badu just announced a new run of shows celebrating the 25 anniversary of her beloved album "Mama's Gun". Released back in year 2000, it's arguably her best body of work, and fans can't get enough of the monumental album. It became a hallmark record in neo soul, sharing her unforgettable hits "Cleva", "Bag Lady", and "Didn't Cha Know?". Selling over 1.4 million copies, the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA, and received multiple recognition from critics as not only one of the best albums of 2000, but among the greatest in the world of all time. At the Mama's Gun '25 The Return of Automatic Slim Tour, get ready to hear your top picks right where it belongs - live on stage.
Released at the turn of the millenium, Mama's Gun is the second studio record of Erykah Badu, named as the "Queen of Neo Soul" by music critics for her powerful and passionate blend of R&B, soul, funk, hip-hop, and more notes that create these sophistacted yet mellow grooves. The album featured "Bag Lady", which earned Badu a nomination for Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 2001 Grammys.
The abum followed her massive debut release "Baduizm" which skyrocketed her career to unprecedented heights. Though Mama's Gun didn't sell as much as her debut did, listeners and critics soon caught up with what is arguably her best body of work to date. Initially feeling dissapointed, her spirits lifted up as she toured in support of the record, "When I started to tour again and saw all the people show up who knew the words, it was confirmation that the work is not always for commercial success. It's also for spiritual upliftment," as cited from "Erykah Badu: The First Lady Of Neo-Soul" by Joel McIver.
Mama's Gun received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and fans, being listed as one of the Top 10 Albums of 2000 by Rolling Stone, voted 15th best album of the year 2000 in the Pazz & Jop (a poll by American critics by The Village Voice), listed on the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die book, and placed at #158 on Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".
As she takes the legendary album back for a live spin, get ready to sing along, vibe, and celebrate these timeless hits that soothe the soul. The best night of 2000s neo soul bangers is here, led by the queen herself. Book your tickets now!
